First Three Months

b-west-identity.jpgOctober 1st marked the first three months of official business since BWEST Interactive officially opened its doors for business on July 1st. It’s been an interesting, nail biting, hair raising, networking, java guzzling, fun quarter.

I met Brent Hammond at a tweetup in that first week. Brent is a successful entrepreneur and runs TrailBlazer System – a system designed to help entrepreneurs reach their dreams by looking at their business as an adventure. And that’s just what he did for me.

We just wrapped up our quarterly review yesterday which was a real eye-opener for me in terms of what we accomplished in the first three months of business.

Needless to say I’m glad to have gone through that exercise as I seem to have perpetualPicture 6.png sense of underachievement, taking little satisfaction in the last success and always looking for that next win. So at the risk of blowing our own horn, I thought I would jot down a few of the things we accomplished this quarter.

We picked up a few great clients that we are thrilled to be working with:

  • District of West Vancouver
  • Scooter Underground
  • Planet Organic Market
  • Rocky Mountain Soap
  • Island Hearing
  • Megson FitzPatrick Insurance
  • Organic Islands Festival
  • Aviawest
  • Pangea Collections

We also have the privilege of working with a few amazing and inspiring non-profit organizations and are happy to be able to give back to the community:

  • Power To Be (Adventure Therapy Society)
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Glendale Gardens

tweetup_sticker.jpgI also did a ton of networking, from joining the Values-Based Business Network and the WestShore Chamber of Commerce to checking out a couple of BNI’s, attending several tweetups, mixers, SMCs and drinking more than a few litres of coffee while talking to colleagues, peers and competitors – it’s all good!

Then in August, at the monthly Social Media Club meeting, Janis Lacouvee asked for volunteers to help withyyjtwestival-1(2).png something called a “Twestival”. A twhat? I had no idea what I was getting into but sounded like fun so I volunteered. The next six weeks were a whirlwind of activity, personal growth and a whole lot of fun. I met some amazing people who have become good friends. And together we were able to raise almost $5,000 for Power To Be. I even got a chance to go on my favourite morning radio program, CBC Radio 1 with Gregor Craigie, to talk about the Twestival.

And, somewhere in there I even managed to sneak in a ‘working’ vacation back to Toronto and taught myself to code in FBML (Facebook Mark-up Language).

What I didn’t do in my first three months of business:

  • play golf – at all
  • play much hockey
  • hang out with the kids
  • sleep (much) or watch TV
  • do any gardening or work around the house
  • and the running took a hit as well

What would I change if I could? Not a darn thing. I can’t wait to see what the next quarter has in store for us. Hope to connect with you along the way. Please drop me a note in the comments box below…

Update: Oh, and how could I forget, my Dell blew-up and I bought a MacBook. No doubt a huge contribution to the company’s success.
