Julien Smith - Trust Agents
We were fortunate to have Julien Smith, co-author of Trust Agents, join us at the Victoria Social Media Club in January.
Admittedly, when I met Julien just prior to his presentation, I was a bit surprised. He wasn't what I was expecting, which made his talk all the more intriguing and compelling to me. Julien has an unassuming, almost whimsical manner that draws you in.
My Top Five
Here are my top five take aways from Julien's talk.
Be tomorrow's "radio"
Touch the burner
Hype dies, the channel is forever
The network dissipates over time
Building tribes is critical
Say "yes" more often (OK that's six so we'll call this the bonus take away. Try it sometime.)
Julien spoke for about an hour, but unfortunately the batteries in the video camera died after about 20 minutes. Major bummer.
The After Party
I was lucky enough to be Julien's chauffeur that evening so we got to hang out and get to know each other a bit more. The Tweetup the next day at the Morningside Estate was epic. What a cross section of people we had, most of which had never been to a tweetup and had no idea what to expect.
What happened was, an awesome conversation, lot's of movement outside the comfort zone, network building and people saying yes.

I was there. Julian was great. Two other thing that stuck with me were 1.the importance of saying yes when opportunities present themselves, to be a doer and 2. how much your actions or inactions affect others, not just in your circle but in the circles of those you connect with.
Thanks for filming this, I'd forgotten about touching the burner!
