Nurse Next Door & The Benefits of Blog Comments

Picture 524.pngWhat would you do if a competitor accused you of providing shoddy service? Would you take legal action for possible defamation?  Or, would you write a blog post and link to that competitor’s website?

I read with great interest, a story in the Financial Post about a company that used "social media" (their blog) to defend its reputation and rebut that competitor. And guess what, the results have been pretty awesome:

  • they have received a ton of positive earned media with articles in the Financial Post, Franchise Direct, Franchise Gator, Americas Best Franchises and soon Inc. Magazine.
  • not only combated the negative comments on the competitors website but drew attention to the competitor’s unprofessional business tactics
  • generated a significant amount of traffic to their website and hence awareness for the brand
  • added value to the brand and business by demonstrating their integrity and professionalism
  • earned them a spot on the speaking schedule at Social Media Camp in Victoria (SMCV11)

The Benefit of Blog Comments

Picture 523.pngSo what does that have to do with the benefit of blog comments? I was so impressed with John DeHart’s (Co-founder and CEO) use of his blog to address the issue that I left a comment on his blog to let him know. I also indicated that:

  • I would be using this story as a case study in my Social Media Workshops
  • and I invited John to speak at SMCV11 where he could share his story with other franchisees and social media practitioners

John since contacted me and agreed to speak at SMCV11, which I am very excited about. Then just the other day I got an unexpected call from a writer for Inc. Magazine. I actually thought I was being punked at first. Based on my blog comments he wanted to interview me for an article being written about the issue and my take on it.

Let’s Review

So, one blog comment = one fantastic new speaker for SMCV11, lots of clicks back to the bWEST blog and an article in Inc. Magazine, not bad…
